Owned and operated by Steve Tulipana and Shawn Sherrill since 2005, recordBar has grown to be a staple multipurpose space for locals, and a destination venue for touring artists. What started as a small venue in a strip mall grew to a larger Crossroads location, hosting performances from local bands to international acts.
To celebrate 20 years of live music, recordBar held a festival called Play Loud, bringing back some of the acts that helped get recordBar to where it is today. Small bands local to Kansas City as well as local-turned-national acts were brought together at the venue for the last weekend of September 2025. I created a set of branding materials to celebrate both their 20th anniversary and the Play Loud Festival.
To bring back the nostalgia of the early days of recordBar, I resurrected their original 2005 logo for their 20th anniversary. I utilized the original written out logo as the base and added a modern background to bring their logo to 2025.
Their original brand colors are a dark grey and vibrant yellow. To expand and add depth, I included a lighter grey, an ivory, a desaturated blue in two shades, and pops of salmon and red. I wanted to use primary colors to reflect the reputation of the venue as a primary community gathering space.
With these assets, I designed multiple lineup and promotional posters for the Play Loud festival, which took place on September 27th and 28th, 2025. I also designed multiple T-shirts with the anniversary logo and the Play Loud branding.
